Thief takes rare statue

sd3137584sty-rebecca1A rare classical-style bronze statue worth nearly £2,000 has been stolen from a display at a Shrewsbury art gallery.

The 29ins solid bronze figure, in the shape of a young girl holding a seashell, was stolen from the Reynolds Gallery in High Street between about 4.30pm on Friday and 11.30am on Saturday.

It is mounted on a black marble base, weighs about 15kg and is one of only 150 ever made.

Owner Lesley Reynolds said the statue was worth nearly £2,000.
