McIntyre takes next Town step

Tuesday 7th April 2009, 12:22PM BST.

kevin-mcintyre2Shrewsbury Town midfielder Kevin McIntyre will step up his Shrewsbury Town comeback tomorrow – by playing his first game since mid-January.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been pencilled in for a 45 minute appearance in the home reserve game against Lincoln (2pm).

McIntyre has been sidelined since suffering a leg fracture at Port Vale on January 17, but is now ready to step up his bid to play a part in Town’s promotion run-in.

Manager Paul Simpson is hoping McIntyre will come through the game unscathed but admits, even if does so, he is unlikely to be risked in the Easter double-header against Bury on Friday and then Rochdale.

“Kevin has been joining in with the lads for football work for the last week and he’s ready to play 45 minutes tomorrow which is great news,” said the Town boss.

“Hopefully there will be no problems at all but the weekend may come a bit early.

“We are not in a position where we are short of numbers so we have to make sure we get him right.”

Meanwhile, Town continue to wait on news from FIFA over the prospects of striker Omer Riza being available to play before the end of the season.

Riza is currently serving a four-month ban following a contract dispute in Turkey, but that is under investigation from FIFA.

“FIFA have told the Turkish FA they have to come up with legitimate reasons why they banned him and why this has dragged on so long,” added Simpson.

“If they don’t do that, FIFA will make a decision and hopefully we will be given the all-clear to play him.”

Currently, Riza is only allowed to play in behind-closed-doors friendlies.
