Retailer given lifetime award
Monday 6th April 2009, 3:57PM BST.
The chairman of Shropshire and Mid Wales retail group Harry Tuffin has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of more than half a decade in the industry.
Roy Delves received the honour at the national Convenience Retail Awards held at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel, London.
Roy, son-in-law of Harry Tuffin, joined the company in 1960 along with his wife Ruby and the business has expanded to a portfolio of seven forecourt stores ranging from 1,000 sq ft to 60,000 sq ft.
Harry Tuffin also acquired the Montgomeryshire Natural Spring Water Company, which was purchased in 1993 under the lead of Roy, who shares the chairmanship of both companies with his wife, Ruby Delves.
At 71 years of age, Roy still regularly works seven day weeks, often from 6am or 7am and is regularly seen helping out on the shopfloor.
Roy’s son Paul Delves is the managing director of Harry Tuffin Ltd.
He said: “We were thrilled to learn that dad was a winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. He has worked so hard over the years to build Harry Tuffin to what it is today and the family and I are extremely proud of him.”
Harry Tuffin has been based in the Shropshire, Powys and Worcestershire regions for over 55 years and serves the local community with a wide range of food products including fresh groceries, frozen and chilled products, National Lottery along with many other household necessities.
