Bucks edge closer to play offs
Monday 6th April 2009, 8:40AM BST.
Assistant manager Larry Chambers called for the lads to show a ‘steely determination’ to get back into the play offs and that’s exactly what they did in the beating of Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, writes Telford blogger Joe Davies.
After the recent slump in league form (two wins from six games) even the most avid fan must have been getting a bit nervous and starting to think the unthinkable – not even making the play-offs.
However, Chambers’ rallying call appeared to do the trick as we managed to scrape a vital 2-1 away win.
It looked like we were only going to take a point away from the game when Gainsborough scored after 71 minutes, but Liam Blakeman managed to rescue the three points in the 78th minute when he prodded the ball past the keeper for his third goal of the season.
The result will have also pleased boss Rob Smith after he slammed the attitude of the lads after the defeat at Farsley Celtic last week.
What he said was right to show everyone his disappointment and every Bucks fan will agree with what he finally said because many had been thinking the same things for a few weeks now.
We manage to beat teams at the top of the table and from the Blue Square Premier in cup competitions but struggle against teams at the bottom of our league.
