Ex-county woman in fraud case
Saturday 4th April 2009, 11:50AM BST.
A former Telford woman who fraudulently claimed more than £10,000 in benefits over a four-year period has been ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work.
Mona-Lisa Mhondiwa, who used to live in Delbury Court, Hollinswood, was also made the subject of a 12-month community order and told to pay £2,000 costs at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday.
She admitted fraudulently claiming housing and council tax benefit.
The court was told that Mhondiwa, who now lives in Vale Street, Dudley, had claimed benefit on the basis that she had been in the UK for more than two years and had not been given temporary admission following her entry to the country from her native Zimbabwe.
The court also heard she had used a forged UK Borders Agency letter to support her claim when she had no right to the funds.
The fraud came to light after a Telford & Wrekin Council investigation.
