Breach probe members sent warning

Saturday 4th April 2009, 12:30PM BST.

Six Ludlow town councillors, who are being investigated after allegedly breaching confidential council information, have received official letters warning them of a possible suspension.

Councillors Mickey Bradley, Amanda Pope, Marie Glaze and Tony Pound as well as the town’s mayor Jim Newbold and deputy mayor Derek Davies met with South Shropshire District Council’s standards committee on Monday.

Following the hearing, the new Shropshire Council has sent letters to each of the members, outling why they are subject to investigation.

The letters include a signed decision notice stating the committee met to consider allegations by John Aitken that the councillors breached the Code of Conduct of Ludlow Town Council.

It states the councillors allegedly disclosed confidential information in closed session to the press.

The letter confirmed they are not yet suspended.

Today, Mickey Bradley, who has resigned following the hearing, maintains it was made “very plain” at Monday’s hearing that they had been suspended. He said he had quit over a request the councillors involved wrote letters of apology to the rest of the council.

Councillor Glaze added: “We are in the right and we are not changing our minds.”
