Man, 22, paid for child sex images

Friday 3rd April 2009, 11:44AM BST.

in_court2A 22-year-old former Welshpool man who paid to access internet child porn confessed to police that he had downloaded indecent images of youngsters since the age of 14, a judge heard yesterday.

Gary Jackson, now of Rainham in Essex, received a three-year community order and must attend a community sex offenders’ group.

He must also register as a sex offender for five years.

He admitted six offences of making indecent images.

Prosecuting counsel Mr Karl Scholz told Caernarfon Crown Court that the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre had alerted police.

A group supplying images of child abuse had used a number of PayPal accounts for payments, the court heard.

Jackson had paid 94 US dollars in March 2007 and 99 US dollars two months later to access the abuse websites.

In June last year police searched his flat in Broad Street, Welshpool, which Jackson had shared with his girlfriend for ten months.

Mr Scholz said a computer tower was removed from the Welshpool property and police discovered that more than 100 images had been deleted.

Jackson told police he started viewing adult porn then moved to child porn, but said he was remorseful.

Mr Michael Whitty, defending, said self-employed Jackson worked for a drainage firm.
