Probe continues at adventure centre
Friday 3rd April 2009, 11:42AM BST.
Environmental health officers were today continuing to investigate a Shropshire adventure centre after a number of children were taken ill at the site.
Experts from Shropshire Council’s environmental health department visited the Manor Adventure Centre near Craven Arms yesterday and carried out tests after reports of the youngsters suffering with sickness.
They are now awaiting the results.
Gareth Proffitt, a spokesman for Shropshire Council, said today that experts were working closely with staff at the centre to establish the cause of the illness.
Mr Proffitt said: “Environmental health officers are investigating following reports that a number of children were taken ill at Manor Adventure Centre.
“Officers are working closely with the centre and visited it on Thursday as part of their investigations.”
He added: “Until these investigations are completed it is not possible to say anything about the cause of the illness, or to confirm how many children may have been affected.”
The venture’s managing director, Vaughan Phillips, yesterday confirmed that the incident involved “a handful” of children at the centre.
The centre, which has remained open, is one of three educational activity facilities in England and Wales offering schoolchildren the opportunity to try a range of outdoor pursuits.
