Wolves hope for strike duo
Thursday 2nd April 2009, 2:48PM BST.
Wolves are hopeful strike duo Chris Iwelumo and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will be fit for Monday’s clash at Birmingham – despite both missing internationals through injury.
Sixteen-goal Iwelumo reported back early from Scotland duty yesterday, missing the World Cup qualifying win against Iceland with a hip flexor injury.
Championship top scorer Ebanks-Blake, who has struck 24 times this season, missed out on England under-21s action with a calf problem.
Wolves head of medical department Steve Kemp said: “Chris has been sent back from Scotland as a precautionary measure to be assessed by our medical team.
“We don’t think it’s anything too serious but we’ll monitor him over the next couple of days to see how he goes.
“There’s no major injury trauma there and the main thing is that it’s a precautionary step.
“It gives Chris a chance to be involved for us on Monday.” Ebanks-Blake is expected to return to training on Saturday, when the rest of Wolves’ international contingent return to Compton.
“Sylvan’s done very well,” added Kemp.“He came back with a minor tear to his calf and has been in intensive rehab ever since.
“He’s been improving on a day-to-day basis and should be able to go back into training over the next couple of days.
“We’ll see how he reacts to that.”
