Store to create 75 jobs
Wednesday 1st April 2009, 11:59AM BST.
Up to 75 jobs are to be created when a supermarket opens its doors in Oswestry.
Morrisons has announced the jobs will come when it takes over the Somerfield store after buying the Station Road supermarket from the Co-operative Group.
Morrisons has been recruiting people for a wide variety of roles at the Oswestry store, from skilled butchers to fresh food assistants and department managers.
Successful applicants will team-up with former Somerfield staff who will join Morrisons on the handover of the store.
Bosses say all employees will be given thorough training before the doors open to customers.
Gail Roberts, retail recruitment manager, said: “We have had a lot of interest in these job opportunities and for many people this will be the first step in their career with Morrisons.”
A date is still to be set for the new store opening.

How many of these jobs are new, additional to those which already exist at the current store?
Are Morrisons saying that in the present slump they need 75 more staff to run the same sized shop at Somerfield did?

They will need an additional 75 folks. Morrisons have the famed ‘Market street’ with all the baker, butcher, fish monger, etc counters/areas. They need staff and indeed managers/supervisors ;-)
