Name for relief road

Wednesday 1st April 2009, 1:52PM BST.

Bridgnorth’s £1 million Whitburn Street Relief Road is to be called Old Smithfield Road.

The name, which has been confirmed by the Post Office, was suggested by Ann Chadwick, of Danesbridge, Bridgnorth.

She will be presented with a big Easter egg by Ed Shirley, chairman of the former Bridgnorth District Council, next week.

He was among the judges who chose the winning entry.

Among the other suggestions put forward were Market Way, Old Whitburn Way and Trevithick Way.

The Whitburn Street Relief Road opened earlier this month.
