A motorcyclist has died in hospital a day after he was involved in a road smash with a car in a Shropshire village.
The man, who has not been named but is in his 50s, died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital last night following the crash on the A458 at Ford, near Shrewsbury, on Sunday afternoon.
Police today said initially his injuries were not believed to be life threatening but his condition deteriorated and he died at the hospital late last night.
The man had been riding a grey and black BMW motorcycle at the time of the collision, which happened just after 4pm near to the Shell service station.
The female driver of the car, a grey Ford Focus, was not injured but left shaken by the incident.
The road was blocked for a short time following the crash.
Constable Tony Evans, from Shrewsbury police, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and today renewed an appeal for witnesses to come forward to help police with their investigation.
“There were a number of other vehicles in the area of the crash when it happened and we believe that a number of people would have seen what happened,” he said.
“The motorbike was travelling towards Shrewsbury at the time and the Focus in the opposite direction towards Welshpool.
“Anybody who saw the crash who has not yet been spoken to by police, or who witnessed the manner of driving by either vehicle involved immediately beforehand is asked to contact us on 0300 333 3000.”
John Ellery, the coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, has been made aware of the death and a post mortem examination will take place in due course followed by an inquest.
Meanwhile, a woman was still in a serious condition in hospital today after the car she was in collided with a number of trees in Shrewsbury.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was injured in a crash in Hubert Way in the early hours of yesterday.
Today Maria Hawkaluk, a spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said that “at this stage” the woman’s injuries were no longer considered to be life threatening, but she was still in a serious condition in hospital.
