Minister backs Credit Munch campaign
Saturday 28th March 2009, 11:10AM GMT.
The Government today backed the Shropshire Star’s Credit Munch campaign and said it hoped it would be a lifeline for farmers and food businesses.
The campaign will run until April and aims to provide a boost to food businesses struggling in the recession and also help people by giving them gourmet dinners on a shoestring.
Today Farming Minister Jane Kennedy said she was supportive of Credit Munch.
She said: “Our farmers and food producers provide us with a fantastic range of wholesome affordable food and I’m encouraging government departments to use seasonal and local produce wherever possible.”
The Credit Munch campaign features recipes from top chefs that show residents they can cook low-cost/high-quality dinners in their own homes.
Free recipes appear in the Star’s Weekend Supplement each Saturday – today Ludlow’s acclaimed chef Will Holland, from La Becasse, shows how to make a Shropshire lamb dish costing just 70p per person.
