MP has a say over link road proposal

A campaign over a multi-million pound link road in Shropshire today moved on a pace after a county MP launched his own consultation.
David Wright, MP for Telford, has launched a residents’ consultation into the £16million road linking to the M54, and has vowed to lobby councillors to preserve the area once the road is built.
The proposed road, a Telford & Wrekin Council project, would link the A442 Queensway at the Greyhound Interchange near Oakengates to the M54 at the Forge Interchange, and would run close to residents of Ketley Bank.
Councillors are waiting to see if a bid for government funding for the road has been successful.
Mr Wright has sent out 500 questionnaires to Ketley Bank households asking for their views and plans to ask that trees are built to mask the road, and a noise assessment is carried out.
He is also campaigning for new pedestrian crossings at the Greyhound Interchange Island, and the Silkin Way to be redesigned.
“I’ve always been a bit sceptical about the scheme but if it’s going to go ahead residents in Ketley Bank are going to be affected,” he said.
Councillor Miles Hosken, cabinet member for the environment, said: “If the construction of the road gets the all clear, we are intending to engage in a full consultation process with residents both on the proposals for the road itself and additional issues in terms of screening and road safety.”

Simple Simon says build the road. It is crazy that the two main transport links in this town are not linked directly forcing everyone down town centre roads. The M54 missing links to the M6 north and M6 toll is also crazy and should be plugged as soon as possible.

It also has never ceased to amaze me that the A442 crosses the M54 by Telford Town centre, but the two roads aren’t directly linked.
Whose crazy idea was it to force A442 /M54 traffic into the town centre traffic flow?
Surely a good road system ensures that “through” traffic and “local” traffic don’t mix?
