Picture: Rose PearceA £2,500 commemorative piece of silver commissioned to mark the end of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is to be unveiled tonight at the final meeting of the authority.

Former mayor Councillor Judith Williams designed the salver, which contains the names of all the SABC wards, before the council is abolished on Tuesday.

It was officially presented to new town council clerk Andy Goldsmith at a ceremony on Monday at St Chad’s Church.

But the piece will also be on display at the final full council meeting tonight at the Guildhall from 6pm so councillors and members of the public can see it. Councillor Williams said she was “delighted” with the new salver which bears an enamelled borough council logo of the three loggerheads.

She said she commissioned the piece last summer after visiting Birmingham’s jewellery quarter to consult silversmiths.

Councillor Williams said: “We are all very pleased with it indeed. It has been presented to the new town council and it will go on display in the mayor’s parlour.”

Thanks will be paid tonight to the last mayor and deputy mayor with bouquets of flowers presented to Councillor Anne Chebsey and deputy mayoress Jayne Parkhurst.
