School assault: Pupil is expelled
Tuesday 24th March 2009, 11:10AM GMT.
A Bridgnorth schoolboy has been permanently expelled after an incident which left another pupil wounded and hospitalised.
Richard Stilwell, chairman of the governors at Bridgnorth Endowed School, today confirmed the teenager involved in the incident on March 16 has been excluded.
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident after officers were called to the Bridgnorth Endowed School at 1.30pm.
He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
The injured boy, who is believed to be a Year Eight pupil, suffered a puncture wound to his back, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
Robin Chowdhuri, a spokesman for Shropshire County Council said that they are currently working with the school to find an alternative place for the boy involved.
“We are working with the school over what is the correct action to be taking,” he said. “We did help the school in terms of putting together a letter to send home to the parents.
“Not only do we have a duty of care to the pupil who was injured, we also have a duty of care to the other young man.”
Mr Chowdhuri said he didn’t know whether the injured boy was back at school.
