Marlon in loan deal at Wolves

Tuesday 24th March 2009, 1:10PM GMT.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has added to his attacking options by signing Marlon Harewood on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

The striker’s arrival will provide a timely boost for the Coca-Cola Championship leaders, who have six games remaining this season and top the table by five points.

Harewood could make his debut when Wolves return to action after the international break against promotion rivals Birmingham on April 6.

Villa have inserted a 24-hour recall clause into the agreement but that will only become active after the first 28 days of the loan – after the visit of QPR to Molineux on April 18.

Harewood’s former club Nottingham Forest also showed an interest in taking the striker on loan before Thursday’s deadline, with manager Billy Davies claiming the deal was all but done.

It was initially suggested the 29-year-old had rejected a move to the City Ground but reports have since claimed it may have been Villa who blocked the move, with Wolves then expressing an interest.

Harewood has found his opportunities limited at Villa Park this season, making 15 appearances in all competitions, mostly from the bench, and scoring just one goal – in a UEFA Cup encounter against Litex Lovech last October.
