Balshaw to open schools in town

Tuesday 24th March 2009, 3:20PM GMT.

Paralympic star Ricky Balshaw will officially open two Telford schools in the space of three days.

Old Park Primary School and Children’s Centre in Malinslee and Short Wood Primary School in Wellington, which are both environmentally friendly schools, will be opened by the horserider, who scooped silver in the 2008 paralympics.

The paralympic star, from Shawbirch, will open Old Park Primary School at 1.30pm on Monday, before opening Short Wood on April 1.

Short Wood was built following the merger of Barn Farm Infant and Ercall Junior Schools, while Old Park was built following the amalgamation of Langley St Leonards and Malinslee Primary Schools.

Mr Balshaw said: “It is a privilege to be asked to open these two excellent new schools, which are prime examples of how the thinking behind delivering educational outcomes has progressed.”
