Trapped woman rescued by crew
Monday 23rd March 2009, 10:50AM GMT.
Firefighters rescued a Mid Wales woman from a first-floor flat today after a blaze blocked her escape route.
Crews were called to Ardywn Flats, in Park Terrace, Llandrindod Wells, shortly after midnight today, where they rescued the woman.
She was treated at the scene for shock, but did not need hospital treatment.
A Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called to a fire in a block of flats in the town after reports it had blocked the fire escape.
“We had reports a woman was stuck in the part of the building affected.
“Upon arrival, a crew from the town discovered there was a woman calling for help from a window and we had to take her out.
“We used a ladder and small gear to help free the lady from the flat and then brought her to safety.”
Crews remained at the scene, tackling the blaze, for about 75 minutes.
The spokesman said the cause of the fire is still unknown, but some damage was caused to the building.
“The fire and rescue operation took more than an hour to complete and it is believed the building has suffered some damage,” he said.
Crews were today due to return to the scene to assess the damage and discover the cause.
A Wales Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a woman was treated at the scene in the early hours.
