A teenager was injured after a tractor towing a trailer jackknifed on a main Telford road this afternoon.
A section of Whitchurch Drive, near Wrekin Retail Park, was left blocked after the vehicle ended up on its side in the middle of the carriageway.
The 18-year-old driver was taken by ambulance to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital with minor injuries after the crash, which happened just before 12.15pm.
The accident caused tailbacks along Whitchurch Drive, as far back as M54 Junction 6, and also for motorists wishing to leave the retail park.
The road was initially completely blocked, although police acted quickly to reopen one lane of the northbound carriageway past the accident site to ease congestion.
The trailer was empty at the time, but had been used to transport manure slurry.
Denise Wakefield, Telford police spokesman, said: “We had a road traffic collision in Whitchurch Drive just before 12.15pm, involving one vehicle, a tractor towing machinery. It was just past the entrance of the retail park. The driver had minor injuries and an ambulance was in attendance.”
Firefighters from Wellington fire station also attended. Ian Pugh, watch manager, said: “We made the vehicle safe and contained any spillage, including oil and diesel.”
