Talks on housing scheme are due

Monday 23rd March 2009, 6:58PM GMT.

Plans to build 150 homes on a site in Shropshire look likely to be given the go-ahead by council planning chiefs.

Whitchurch business Grocontinental has submitted plans to build the homes in Heathwood Road, Higher Heath.

The application also includes proposals for a new access for vehicles together with public open space and a building for commercial/

community use.

Members of North Shropshire District Council’s development control committee will discuss the application on Wednesday. They are being recommended to grant permission.

A report to councillors says: “The site has a commercial use and it has been used as a storage and distribution yard by Grocontinental. The site has a variety of large buildings and it is almost entirely covered in hard standing.

“The business has now relocated the bulk of their operation to Whitchurch. The authorised use of the site remains one of storage and distribution.”

If approved, 25 per cent of the homes would be provided as affordable accommodation.

Thirteen letters have been received by the council from residents with concerns including traffic congestion, highway safety and problems with drainage.

The meeting will take place at 2pm in the council chamber at Edinburgh House, New Street, Wem.
