Promotion is now the aim

Monday 23rd March 2009, 11:14AM GMT.

York City v AFC Telford UnitedLet’s go for promotion now – that was the determined cry from AFC Telford United today as they look to put their FA Trophy disappointment behind them.

The Bucks went down 2-1 at York in their semi-final second leg on Saturday, losing 4-1 on aggregate.

But they have no time to get despondent over that, as they get straight back to action with the trip to Hinckley in the Blue Square North tonight.

The game is likely to see a debut for 19-year-old Leicester City striker Ricky Sappleton, who has joined on loan for the rest of the season. His arrival is timely, with first-choice front pair Andy Brown (Achilles) and Danny Carey-Bertram (hamstring) both still struggling, despite playing the full 90 minutes at York.

“We can concentrate on the league now, and we’ve got no distractions other than the Setanta Shield on Thursday (at Barrow in the northern area final),” said assistant manager Larry Chambers.

“We’ll have all the squad available. Danny and Browny finished the game sore on Saturday so I don’t know if it will come too soon for them.

“But we’ve got Sappleton on loan, we’ve got Mark Danks to come back in and Matty Lewis (who has completed a loan at Hednesford) is back as well, so we’ve got options.”

Chambers was also full of praise for the 689 Telford fans who made the long trip to Kit-Kat Crescent at the weekend to roar on the Bucks.
