The sun shone today on hundreds of people from across the county who turned out to enjoy the 47th Minsterley Eisteddfod.
Hundreds of competitors and visitors gathered at Minsterley Parish Hall, near Shrewsbury, for the annual event, featuring about 400 entries in 30 classes.
Organisers said they were expecting up to 1,000 people to attend during the day.
Speaking before the event started Bronwen Evans, general secretary of the eisteddfod, said organisers were looking for a “very good day”, with as many people as possible turning out to enjoy it.
Visitors were able to enjoy solo singers and groups, in addition to instrumentalists, literature recitations and classes focusing on the written word. No less than 13 choirs and groups were taking part.
This year organisers introduced an instrumental bursary of £250 for musical development.
This was to be awarded to an instrumentalist up to and including Key Stage Three, who the adjudicators felt showed the most potential.
And the fun does not stop today.
Tomorrow a celebrity concert will take place at the hall at 7pm, featuring Cor Meibion Y Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir.
Tickets priced at £11 and £8 are available by calling (01743) 791908.
