darwin200thlogosmall1TV crews from Germany, China and other parts of the world will descend on Shrewsbury during the next month as celebrations continue for the 200th anniversary of scientist Charles Darwin.

They will converge on the town to film special features that will be broadcast on the man who gave the world his theory of evolution.

Darwin expert Jon King, who is curating the 200th anniversary celebrations, said he was delighted that interest in the event was continuing.

He said: “Even though the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth has passed, interest remains very strong indeed. We will be welcoming German and Chinese TV crews soon and they will be filming around Shrewsbury.

“We are still welcoming international visitors to the town, who want to learn more about his life. And we have a lot more events planned for later in the year.”

Meanwhile, a live recording of a concert featuring artists who performed in the Darwin Song Project is set to be released in July.

Eight of the world’s finest singer/songwriters played live at Theatre Severn, in Shrewsbury, on Thursday night, after spending a week composing new material at a songwriters’ retreat, near Acton Scott.

The songs focused on different aspects of the life of Charles Darwin

Neil Pearson, the co-ordinator of the project, said he was looking forward to the CD’s release. He said: “The concert at Severn Theatre was a great success.”
