A middle-aged man was taken to hospital after a car crashed into two vehicles before hitting a bollard on a Shrewsbury roundabout today.
Four people had to be released from the vehicles involved in the collision at the roundabout in Hereford Road, Meole Brace, shortly before 11.30am, which caused some traffic problems.
Ambulance crews treated a man at the scene complaining of chest pains, who was then taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Two fire engines and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue incident commander from Shrewsbury attended the scene as well as a rescue tender from Wellington.
A spokesman for the service said: “Four people were released prior to the arrival of the fire service and one person was conveyed to hospital by ambulance.”
A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were at the scene within five minutes of the first of a number of calls at 11.24am.
He said: “One car collided with two others and then a bollard on the roundabout.
“One of the cars suffered front offside damage and the occupant, a middle-aged man, was out of the vehicle on our arrival.
“He was complaining of chest pain but it was not clear whether it was cardiac related or trauma related.
“Crews took no chances and took him to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on blue lights.”
One ambulance and the incident support officer attended the incident but nobody else was hurt.
The fire service remained on scene until 11.43am after inspecting the vehicles to ensure they were safe.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: ‘We got to the scene at 11.29am.
“It did affect traffic because of the nature of the volume of traffic at that time but the road was not closed.”
The scene was cleared by 1pm.
