Police to use DVD in estate clean-up
Friday 20th March 2009, 10:43AM GMT.
Police and officials from a housing association have teamed up to try and “clean up” a Market Drayton housing estate.
Speaking at a meeting of Market Drayton Town Council last night, Local Police Officer Martin Powell confirmed that new schemes were being tried to prevent drug crime and theft on the Dalelands Estate.
He said the police and Meres and Mosses Housing Association had worked together to launch a new DVD which lists the dos and don’ts for residents living there.
The DVD also states that anyone caught breaking these rules faces eviction.
Mr Powell said: “At the moment we are very closely involved with Meres and Mosses Housing Association to try and clean up the Dalelands Estate. We are trying to create a better profile for the Dalelands area and solve some of the problems there.
“We have made a DVD that the residents are given to watch and they then sign a form agreeing to the rules. I think this is a very good idea and hopefully we will get the message across that certain behaviour is not acceptable.
“Hopefully Meres and Mosses will back this up by evicting people if they are breaching their tenancy.
“I know they have already given someone the push and I think that’s a sign they are trying to improve things so at the moment we are spending a lot of time up there.”
In his report the officer said the town was experiencing less crime at the moment compared with the same time last year.
