McCarthy warning over Forest backlash

Friday 20th March 2009, 10:56AM GMT.

Mick McCarthyWolves manager Mick McCarthy expects Nottingham Forest to come out on the offensive when the sides meet at the City Ground tomorrow.

McCarthy’s Coca-Cola Championship leaders thrashed Forest 5-1 in August and the east Midlands side were beaten 5-0 at Burnley last time out, but the former Republic of Ireland boss is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “Go and look at their teamsheet – Wes Morgan, Kelvin Wilson, Chris Gunter, James Perch, Lewis McGugan, Chris Cohen, Rob Earnshaw, Gary McSheffrey on loan from (Birmingham) and Nathan Tyson – have I named any bad players yet?

“I suppose they will all be feeling a bit sensitive about losing 5-0 and had (manager) Billy (Davies) lashing them, so I’d imagine they would want to restore a bit of faith in themselves.

“There are two ways they can go – I’m not sure they can get any worse than 5-0 but it doesn’t always work that you get beaten by five you come back feeling confident.

“But I haven’t yet played against a team that doesn’t get inspired from playing against us.

“We’re top of the league and they all want to stop us. They need the points themselves anyway.”

Forest do indeed need to get something from the game and only a victory will give them a chance of climbing out of the bottom three.
