Cheer as Croft ban reduced

Telford Tigers have been boosted by the news that defenceman Daniel Croft has had his suspension reduced on appeal, writes CAROLINE GARBETT.

The EIHA originally ruled him out until January 2010 following an incident at Romford in February – he will now be able to return to playing from October 1.

Croft said: “Of course, I would have liked to be back on the ice earlier, especially to help my team mates in the last few games of the season.

“I sincerely believed it was the wrong call in the first place, and I’m glad that the EIHA have changed their decision.

“It will be nice to play from the start of the season, instead of waiting until halfway through the year.

“I have had fantastic support from the fans – they really helped me through it, so I would like to thank them.

“And it was not only the Telford fans, but I got lots of support from the people over at Milton Keynes and around the other teams.

“I was very grateful for the fans’ donations towards the appeal fund, and for the messages of support.

“It just goes to show that around the league a lot of other people agreed that the original punishment was too harsh.”
