Three Shropshire servicewomen became ice maidens to take part in a military competition.

Sgt Natalie Williams
Sergeant Natalie Williams, a 51 Squadron air crew linguist, from Telford, Lieutenant Lisa Milner, a Royal Navy sailor from Shrewsbury, and Corporal Carice Allen, a Newport soldier, all took part in the 2009 Inter Services bobsleigh and skeleton championships.

Corporal Carice Allen
Sergeant Williams was third in the women’s skeleton competition. She also helped the RAF win the women’s team skeleton title.
The event, which included competitors from the Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, was held for the first time in the Italian town of Sestriere, which hosted the bobsleigh events during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Lt Lisa Milner
Corporal Allen, 31, who serves with 32nd Regiment Royal Artillery, came second in the women’s two-man bobsleigh event, while Lieutenant Milner, 30, came fourth in the same category.
Sergeant Williams, who only started skeleton racing in January 2008, said: “It is an amazing sport where you get a lot of bruises, but it is awesome.”
