Wrekin Ruby mystery continues

Mystery still surrounded the ruby believed to have been sold to buy collapsed firm Wrekin Construction today after a jewel called the Gem of Tanzania turned up in a spoof sale on online trading website eBay.
The eBay page says the “Gem of Tanzania – the most valuable ruby in the world (allegedly)” is available to bid for until March 24, and is accompanied with a photo of a pear-shaped ruby stone.
It lists the stone’s location as Gatwick, and by early today, there were bids on the item with the highest being £5.50. Its starting price was 99p and the seller lists postage at £20.
Company accounts for the Shifnal firm show that Wrekin bought a ruby known as the Gem of Tanzania in exchange for £11 million worth of shares in 2007.
The records show that it was bought from the Tamar Group, owned by businessman David J Unwin, who bought the firm and was chairman until it collapsed last week.
