Village in fight over new homes

Wednesday 18th March 2009, 5:59PM GMT.

preesVillagers fighting plans for 25 homes in north Shropshire have launched a petition urging developers to “work with the village and not against it”.

People in Prees fear the plan could sound a death knell for the village.

They fear a massive influx of newcomers into the village, between Wem and Whitchurch would put a strain on resources, the job market and village services.

They have revived the Save Prees Action Group (SPAG), which fought similar plans in 2008.

Now SPAG members have vowed to collect signatures for their petition and present them to developers.

It comes after Bromford Housing Group applied to the district Council for planning permission last month.

Campaigner Ian Stevenson said NSDC had been inundated with dozens of letters of objection after campaigners urged villagers to speak out.

He said: “Villagers are up in arms over this housing proposal and elderly residents are angry that their needs have been ignored.

“We oppose the development of a social housing estate of 20 dwellings as none of it is guaranteed for local people.

“Villagers have launched a petition directed at Bromford Housing Group asking them to work with the village and not against it and to come up with an innovative range of housing which would be a great scheme for Prees and Prees people for years to come.”

Bromford Housing Group says the development would help to secure jobs and meet area housing needs.

Come on Prees where is your compassion. Have some of the ”Asylum Seekers” in your village. Don’t forget we ARE a multi racial country now but its not reflected in your community is it?

Utter rubbish, influx of people to an area brings additional revenue and creates jobs. Just a obvious attempt by spag to keep away outsiders. I’m thinking the gene pool out there could do with a little watering down!

See what I mean! Altering the fabric and SOUL of Shropshire. In Brittany, new houses must fit in with established houses.
Estate houses in Britain are usually too similar for pov reasons of economy.

Just a sad old village with sad old people! What is it? Won’t they be able to keep up with the gossip and knowing everyone’s business so much!!! get a life Prees! Who would want to live there anyway, 25 new house anyone would think it was 250! Get over it and I hope Bromford build more there, just to prove a point!

I have family in prees and canot afford to buy there, or anywhere for that matter. My family an I have been on the council list for over 6 years and still no offer its awful.
I dont object to housing but I do think when there isnt enough housing for local people that should be the priority

I can understand the people in Prees feeling this way. They live in a nice village with I would imagine little, if any, crime. Why would they want to ‘welcome’ 25 new houses, particularly when almost certainly won’t be given to local people (as ‘I said’ above). These houses will accommodate overspills from the cities and asylum seekers who will have priority over local people. People in North Shropshire (not just Prees) should be signing this petition.

I think it strange that the people who are slating the spags, on this page; have they seen the plans for the site? therefore how much do they know about the proposed development, don’t leave their name, if they feel so strongly please, post their name and where they live, for all I know they could benefit from this site, or already live in a bromfield property. We live on the proposed site and have always known that the site would be developed but in a way that would benefit a rural village setting incorporating accomodation for an increasing elderly population or required rural housing not just LOCAL.
