Detective Constable Alan Brady, a father-of-two, died at the scene of the accident on the A49 Tarporley Road, in Willey Moor, between Whitchurch and Bickley, in Cheshire on Sunday.

The 49-year-old, from Urmston, Manchester, was riding with a group of friends when the tragedy happened.

Mr Brady, who spent 20 years with Greater Manchester Police, had recently been working for its counter terrorism unit.

Friends and family of Mr Brady today issued a moving tribute to him.

It said: “Alan died doing what he loved. He lived his life to the full and crammed 100 years into his 49.

“He had a wicked sense of humour.

“This was a terrible tragedy in which a much-loved man had been taken from his family and friends.”

Cheshire Police have renewed an appeal for witnesses to call them on 0845 4580000.
