cosmetics-shoppingTwelve jobs have been created in a Mid Wales town with the opening of a new £1.5 million supermarket.

Harry Tuffins is set to open its latest store in Machynlleth tomorrow, with 12 new members of staff starting work.

The family-run company, which already has supermarkets in Church Stoke and Knighton, has taken over the former HE Jones Station Garage in the town.

The former car showroom site and petrol station is being transformed into a full grocery store covering 3,000 sq feet along with a petrol station and jet wash.

The jobs of the seven existing staff have been secured and there were more than 80 applicants for the 12 new posts, which could increase in the future.

General manager Mark Williams said: “The garage did have a small shop selling a few groceries alongside the fuel, but we have invested a great deal into turning the former car showroom into a supermarket.

“It will be a full grocery store with chilled and frozen foods, a pound shop, newspapers and everything else people need from their local store.”
