Stage stars have been given a second chance to make their name after the huge demand for Telford’s Got Talent forced organisers to put on extra auditions.

Applications for the event officially closed on Sunday, but after a last-minute surge in entries, the show’s organisers have revealed that they are putting on an extra audition for hopefuls.

It will be held at the Park Lane Community Centre in Woodside on March 29, before the event is held on April 17.

A panel of judges and a celebrity guest will pick the final line-up.

Organisers said 147 people had now entered the contest and tickets were selling out quickly for the live show.

Event organiser Julia Sockett said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of entries and the sheer range of people who have auditioned for the competition.

“The young people who are delivering the project have been working flat out to make it the success that it is.”

Telford’s Got Talent is being produced by 10 young people from the borough, working with Connexions 4 Youth and Telford & Wrekin Council’s arts development team.

Councillor Stephen Bentley, council cabinet member for community services, said: “Telford’s Got Talent offers budding stars of all ages, the chance to showcase their skills and talents.

“The show is being organised by a group of young people who are working with the council’s arts development team and is part of the council’s commitment to promoting positive cultural activities across the borough.”

Dancers, singers or even magicians have showed off their talents in their bid to take part in the show.

The show has attracted people from all over the borough, desperate to make their name and woo the judges.

The young people involved are organising the whole project and have won a £5,000 grant through the Positive Activities for Young People grant (PAYP).

Each of the young producers will receive an arts award qualification.

Applications have now closed for the contest.

Tickets to see the show are £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
