Mobile home families in out-of-court deal
Wednesday 18th March 2009, 2:10PM GMT.
Families who face eviction after buying mobile homes built without planning permission have won an out-of-court settlement.
People living in mobile homes near Bridgnorth ended the lengthy dispute with bosses at Highley Park Homes, Highley, at Worcester County Court yesterday.
The residents, who have invested up to £180,000 into their retirement homes, were devastated to find the plots they live on do not have residential planning permission.
Richard Fortune, senior planning officer for Bridgnorth District Council, said: “The piece of land adjacent to the Highley Park site had been developed and a number of units were placed there without planning permission.
“There was an enforcement notice in place. It has not been complied with but there is no time limit.”
A Worcester County Court spokesman said: “There is a confidentiality order on it so the parties can’t speak about what the terms of the order are.”
One resident, who does not wish to be named, said: “Getting this settled means we can move on and put the last two-and-a-half years behind us.”
