Kightly wary of threat to Wolves

Michael Kightly has warned Wolves “can’t relax for a second” after Reading won to close the gap to the automatic promotion places, writes TIM NASH.

Wolves’ 10-point advantage was cut to seven by Reading’s 1-0 win at Doncaster, watched by boss Mick McCarthy.

Steve Coppell’s side still have one game in hand on Wolves and second-placed Birmingham and Kightly believes the Royals could still win “seven on the bounce”.

“We can’t afford to relax for a second. Reading still have a game in hand and Cardiff have three, and they look pretty strong and Birmingham are on a good run again,” said Kightly.

“We’re not getting carried away and we know there’s a long, long way to go.

“There’s a lot of football and a lot of points to be played for.

“If Reading go and win seven games on the bounce – which they’re more than capable of doing and if Birmingham do the same, that would put us under massive pressure.

“But hopefully we can get a few more wins under our belt and get to where we want to be.”

Wolves face a six-pointer and a Midlands derby on Saturday when they travel to third-bottom Nottingham Forest and Kightly says all efforts are now focused on garnering three points at the City Ground before the international break next week.
