sd3097807la21cake-9A £12 million development of a Shropshire museum will include a new mine railway, managers revealed today.

The new railway at Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge will take visitors through the museum woods into a “mine experience”.

Museum trust spokesman Paul Gossage said he hoped the new mine train would give visitors the chance to learn how important mining was to the Ironbridge Gorge area.

The train will make the site easier to access for the thousands of visitors it attracts every year, he said.

The first phase of the £12 million development – the new Canal Street, lined with traditional Victorian shops – is due to open on April 4.
