Reservoir put up for sale
Friday 13th March 2009, 11:43AM GMT.
A disused reservoir and a storage depot in rural parts of Shropshire are among more than 400 sites to be sold off by Severn Trent Water.
The firm wants to dispose of hundreds of sites in its property portfolio across the West Midlands, which it says it no longer needs.
Today bosses of the firm said they were selling a disused service reservoir at Ashfield, Ditton Priors, and Chavel Storage Depot in Ford.
They are among the first batch of properties which Severn Trent has confirmed it wants to sell.
Up for grabs will be everything from a patch of land containing a manhole cover through to a small, redundant reservoir.
Ted Pearce, Severn Trent Water’s director of property, has said the sites were no longer playing a part in delivering the company’s core water and sewage services business.
Mr Pearce said it is not about raising revenue, but a “prudent” step for a corporate organisation to be taking.
He said: “We believe that these types of properties are less affected by the price reductions currently impacting on other sections of the property market, and we will be disposing of them over the coming months and years.”
Most of the sites in the Severn Trent disposal portfolio are in the £25,000 to £50,000 price bracket.
