A mother-of-four who tried to smuggle Class A drugs into Shrewsbury’s Dana Prison to give to her partner has been jailed for two years.
Wendy Groom, 33, was handed the sentence by Judge Nicolas Mitchell at Shrewsbury Crown Court who said it must serve as a deterrent to those who attempt to bring illegal drugs into the prison system.
Groom had previously admitted possessing more than two grammes of heroin with intent to supply and possessing a Subutex tablet, an opioid drug, with intent to supply.
Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said that on July 5 last year police officers acting on intelligence from phone calls knew that Groom, of Bilston, Wolverhampton, was bringing drugs into the prison.
The court heard that when asked to be searched, Groom admitted she had drugs in her possession and had been threatened to bring them into the prison.
Mr Andrew Wilkins, for Groom, said she had been cajoled into bringing the drugs and had received threats at her home.
