Housing scheme is halted as firm folds

A firm which created an eco-village in a south Shropshire town has gone bust leaving half-built homes and potential homeowners out of pocket.
Living Villages, the Bishop’s Castle-based company behind the ground-breaking scheme, has gone into liquidation.
Rumours were rife in Bishop’s Castle after workmen down tools at the flagship eco-development, The Wintles, last summer.
Now GVA Grimley Ltd has stepped in to try and sell the development as a going concern.
Simon Hammond, who is chairman of the Wintles Residents Association, is already living in his Wintles home but says it is like living on a building site.
He said 20 homes had already been completed, with nine currently in construction and plans for another 11 in place.
According to the Living Villages website, which describes the company as a specialist residential developer building energy efficient environmentally friendly communities, prices range from about £300,000 up to £585,000.
Mr Hammond added: “It is an eyesore. The association is in contact with GVA Grimley.”
Lawrence Hall, national PR manager for GVA Grimley Ltd, confirmed that the firm had been appointed as the receivers of the company.
He added: “We are in contact and liaising directly with all parties who have paid a deposit.”
