FTSE 100 boosted by US rally

The FTSE 100 ended slightly higher after a boost from US markets took the index to 3,712.06.
After spending most of the day in the red, the FTSE picked up when US markets opened, as better-than-expected retail data saw stocks climb for a third day.
Insurers continued to rally, with Friends Provident up 9.38 per cent and Standard Life rising 7.13 per cent.
Morrison Supermarkets, which attributed strong results to consumers responding to its focus on value, saw shares rise by 9.75 per cent to 255.50p.
Meanwhile, travel firms continued to suffer after Thomas Cook warned the tourist market would worsen next year.
Thomas Cook shares fell 11.43 per cent, while TUI Travel was down by 5.83 per cent.
