Youngster is hurt in collision with van
Wednesday 11th March 2009, 10:50AM GMT.
A young boy was injured when he was involved in a collision with a van at a busy Shrewsbury junction.
The youngster was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by ambulance following the collision at the junction of Berwick Road, Ellesmere Road and Coton Hill in the town at about 3.20pm yesterday.
The collision came just a day after it emerged that traffic lights could be installed at the junction to make it safer for pedestrians and easier for vehicles to use.
Claire Thomas, a spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said paramedics were called to the junction outside the Royal Oak Pub yesterday.
Maria Hawkaluk, a spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said the child was not seriously injured and was treated by ambulance staff.
She said the road was not blocked and the driver of the car, a blue Peugeot 307, was not injured.
On Monday night Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council discussed the possibility of traffic lights being installed at that junction.
Shropshire Council said a feasibility study for the new traffic lights was being carried out. If funds are available the £120,000 project could be started at the junction before April 2010.
Dr Maxwell Winchester, a borough councillor, today said: “It is a notorious intersection and something really needs to be done.”
