McCarthy delighted as Wolves net point
Wednesday 11th March 2009, 11:48AM GMT.
Mick McCarthy expressed his delight at Wolves’ performance in the 0-0 draw against Ipswich after declaring the display “different class.”
The stalemate kept Wolves’ lead at the top of the Championship to three points with eight games left after Birmingham and Reading also both drew.
Boss McCarthy said: “I thought the lads were different class.
“We’d had a tough game on Saturday and Ipswich hadn’t played for a week, they could have been fresher than us, but we matched them.
“I thought the lads were fantastic.
“So it was a point gained for me – even before knowing the other scores – but that was just confirmed by the other results.”
None of the top six won last night and McCarthy admitted he was baffled about how the Championship table would finish up.
“I haven’t got a clue what the Championship is about, but there isn’t a formula for it and every game is as tough as the next one.
“You have to work for every single thing in this league.”
McCarthy revealed his players were frustrated at their result, but soon picked up when the other scores filtered through.
“The lads came in all disappointed but I said, ‘brilliant, it’s another point ticked off’,” he said.
“Then they found out the other results with other teams and then they’d got smiles on their faces.”
McCarthy also praised the fans for their support.
“The crowd were terrific,” he said.
“They stuck with us and were there at the death cheering us off.
“Remember we’re top of the league and have been the most consistent team in the league so far.
“But I can say now we won’t win all of the time.
“And if we do get to the Premier League where we want to be, there will be even less wins!”
