Windfarms are cause for protest

LETTER: Recently I met MP Lembit Opik in Newtown to voice my concerns regarding windfarms in Powys, and discovered some astonishing facts which need bringing to the public attention.
Firstly, 2,000 turbines are required to replace the output of one conventional power station.
To achieve this objective five turbines for five days for five years will travel through the country – one turbine requires four transporters, ie 20 vehicles per day.
After 10 years the turbines need replacing. Assuming the project is completed in time, after five years the process will begin all over again.
Wind power is the least efficient green energy option.
The hydrology of the hills will be destroyed by the foundations resulting in flash floods and soil erosion.
Finally the proposed routes for transportation will have a profound detrimental effect on towns, villages and the livestock industry.
I urge everyone who cares for the area to make known their views by letter/e-mail and that they attend the meeting today at 7pm at Welshpool Town Hall to discuss the effects of turbine transportation.
