Tributes to crash victim

Tuesday 10th March 2009, 12:30PM GMT.

Tributes have been paid to a 43-year-old woman who died after an accident near Llansilin. Shocked villagers have spoken of a “very kind woman who was very caring”.

It follows the fatal crash which occurred sometime between 8.40pm on Saturday and 7.15am on Sunday.

Dyfed Powys Police has not yet formally identified the woman because all of her next of kin have not been informed but villagers said she was a Dutch woman called Sabiene who had moved to the area with her partner last summer.

She was last seen alive at the village’s Wynnstay Inn pub on Saturday night. The crash on an unclassified road leading to the village’s School Lane was discovered by jogger Chris Tyler on Sunday morning.

Mr Tyler said he was shocked to find the crashed Vauxhall Brava pick-up.

He said: “It is a terrible tragedy. I went out jogging at about 6.30am and I was just jogging down the country lane when I found the crashed vehicle on a corner.

“I was shocked. It is certainly something you don’t expect to find. Her yellow pick-up truck was on its side. I ran back to a neighbour’s house and he called 999.”

Villagers Jeanne Kulig and Steve Jones said they were shocked by the tragedy.

Mr Jones said: “We saw her on Saturday in the pub and she was her usual friendly self. We would see her around the village or sometimes at the Wynnstay.

“You can’t believe it has happened. We got to know her quite well and she was a very kind woman who was very caring. ”

Derek Fuller, landlord at the Wynnstay Inn, added: “She was a nice lady. She will be missed by a lot of people.”

Inspector Jonathan Tatton, of the Mid Wales Road Policing Unit, said her name would not be released for a number of days.
