Simpson thinks he has the key

paul-simpson-31Manager Paul Simpson believes a change in mindset can be the key ingredient to securing a long-awaited Shrewsbury Town away League win at Aldershot tonight.

Town head to the Recreation Ground knowing a first away League victory in seven months and 17 attempts would almost certainly see them climb back into the play-off positions.

And Simpson admits a tinkering in mentality to games on the road can make all the difference against a side who have, themselves, won just once in 12 games since Boxing Day.

“I know Aldershot are on a bit of a bad run at the moment but they are a good side,” said the Town boss.

“They showed here (in Town’s 1-0 win in August) they were a good footballing side and they haven’t had a lot of changes to their team.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game.

“But whatever we do, we have to change the thought patterns we have got going into away games to try and turn it all around.

“We have looked at all sorts of things – preparation, training, tactics, personnel.

“Over the last couple of days, we have asked players when they are preparing for games to change their thoughts.

“There shouldn’t be a difference going into a game at Aldershot’s pitch as there is to coming to the Prostar Stadium.

“Whereas we have a mentality which is good at home, there has been something missing away from home and we have to get them to change it.

Simpson, who reports no fresh injury worries, has urged his squad to remain positive during the run-in.

“The thing I am saying to the players is people can be as negative as they want on the outside,” he added.

“But the top and bottom of it is that you look at the League table and Brentford, Wycombe, Bury, Rochdale, Exeter and Gillingham are all saying they have had a fantastic season so far and everybody is saying we haven’t.

“But we are three points off an automatic place so we are not a million miles away.

“Every single season in every League there is one team that jumps out and has a run at the end of the season. All we are trying to do is have that run.”

0 – 0 ………… The team talk obviously worked then. Has simpson not realized that he should keep his mouth shut before games because he is usually made to look a moron. The joke that was towns away record is now just absolutely tragic. Aldershots performance of late has been poor too, yet they were all over town looking at the posession stats, etc. How humiliating it must be to be a town fan!

You obviously did not go to the match last night then. Try supporting the team. That’s what they need, not uninformed comment.
