Two killed in road smashes
Monday 9th March 2009, 11:34AM GMT.
Two people have been killed in separate road accidents in Shropshire and Mid Wales.
A male pedestrian died after he was in collision with a car on the A518 near Muxton, on the edge of Telford, on Saturday.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. And a woman also lost her life after her vehicle left a road near Llansilin between 8.40pm on Saturday and 7.15am on Sunday.
Neither of the two victims have yet been named by police.
The smash involving the pedestrian happened on Saturday on the A518 about a mile from the Red House pub.
Inspector Gurjit Singh, of West Mercia Police, said: “One vehicle was involved in the collision, colliding with a pedestrian who died at the scene.
“The incident occurred at 8.23pm and we are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact police.”
West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman Clare Thomas said: “Crews arrived to find a pedestrian who had been in collision with a car.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the crews nothing could be done and the pedestrian was confirmed dead at the scene.”
The road was closed for several hours while police carried out an investigation.
Early yesterday morning emergency services were called out to the accident in Llansilin, near Llanrhaeadr.
Inspector Jonathan Tatton, of the Mid Wales Road Policing Unit, said the collision happened sometime overnight and the victim had potentially lay undiscovered for a number of hours.
He said the single vehicle fatal collision happened on an unclassified road leading from School Lane.
Inspector Tatton said: “It is a very rural road and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that she may have been in the vehicle for a while before being discovered.
“That is something we are looking at but we just don’t know at the moment.
“She was last seen at the Wynnstay pub in Llansilin on Saturday night and the vehicle was found by a jogger yesterday morning.
“The vehicle involved is a yellow Vauxhall Brava pick up. The victim is a 43-year-old female and police are not naming her until all the victims’ family have been informed.”
