TV show to settle ankles debate
Monday 9th March 2009, 11:26AM GMT.
The controversial debate over whether Shropshire women have fat ankles will be resolved once and for all today when a programme featuring members of the Women’s Institute is broadcast.
The Priceless Antiques Roadshow will be shown at 6.30pm on BBC2 featuring the Frankwell Little Boro’ branch of the WI based in Shrewsbury.
Antiques Road expert Rupert Maas paid a visit to the group last year after he made a comment on national television suggesting Shropshire women’s ankles were fat.
He outraged the county’s fairer sex by describing a figure in an impressionist painting as having a Shropshire ankle, meaning thick-set.
But he was made to eat his words as the feisty women grilled him about his comments and showed off their slim ankles.
His visit was part of a new series filmed by the BBC concentrating on profiles of the experts on the Antiques Roadshow.

Shropshire girls do have “sturdy” ankles… Thats part of the attraction of them…
Nothing like a good, solidly built ankle to cure what ails ya :)

Why not have a ‘Fat Ankles Competition’ at the ‘Back To The 80′s’ bash in the quarry to complete Shrewsbury’s brain dead year?

Chav’s – belonging to a chav.

I’m not a Shropshire born woman, and I don’t live in Shrewsbury, so I’m not sure what you’re implying.
I just thought you’d like to know the difference for future grammatical purposes.

To be fair – Darren did not have a full stop at the end of comment 4, so he might be using the apostrophe correctly? A word may have dropped off the end – any humorous ideas out there?
“…fat ankles, over weight and dress like chav’s (what?)”

Darren and Perksy are true examples of the ‘shallow’ species, based allover the world, but densly populated around the Shropshire area-as shown by this article. Usually these ‘men’ (i use the term loosely)compensate for their own insecurities by acting like arrogant idiots. Probably, their hatred for local women stems from the fact that they cannot get a date or any interest from women-im not surprised if this is your attitude towards women!

I was standing at the bottom of pride hill and the amount of fatties struggling up the hill was awfull.Granted all the guys are not robert redford but lets face it we have a lot more fat woman than guys in shrewsbury. You are what you eat folks stop stuffing it in your mouth excersise and you will not be a fattie. The glands clap trap is an old wives tale.
