Oliver! to hit town stage
Monday 9th March 2009, 1:25PM GMT.
Nearly 80 cast members, and a dog, are waiting to burst on to stage for a Mid Wales production of Oliver!
The show is being held later this month at Theatr Hafren, Newtown, by the town’s Musical Theatre Company, which is currently putting the final touches to the production.
Rehearsals are well under way for the show after the theatre group held open auditions for the parts of Oliver and the Artful Dodger. The main pair are to be played by Cathryn Jenkins and Jessica Breese.
The judges were so impressed, they also selected a reserve team of Elliot Hopkins, as Oliver, and Jorge Bowen, as Dodger, for the Thursday evening and Saturday matinee shows.
The Lionel Bart musical is being held at the theatre between March 25 and 28.
Andrew Bond, show publicity officer, said: “A large number of auditionees took part, hoping to win one of these two leading roles, or at least become one of Fagin’s gang.”
Mr Bond said the part of Bullseye, Bill Sykes’s dog, was also auditioned for and was eventually given to Hattie, a dark Staffordshire Bull terrier.
Tickets for the show are available from the Theatr Hafren box office on (01686) 625007.
