Bright spark stunts to aid Red Nose Day

Saturday 7th March 2009, 9:39AM GMT.

Fundraisers from across Shropshire are doing something funny for money as part of the annual Comic Relief extravaganza.

The county hopes to generate huge sums of cash next Friday during Red Nose Day. Two Craven Arms-based brothers are pulling out the stops and working for free on March 13. Shaun and Paul Turner from Bright Sparks in Craven Arms will be fixing light switches and sockets on the day in exchange for a donation.

Shaun said: “We want to try to do as many small jobs as we can on the day and we will be accepting donations for our work – as much as people see fit.”

Anyone who would like to book Shaun or Paul on the day should call (01588) 672093 or 07956 563430.

A county playgroup is also joining in with doing something funny for money to raise funds for Comic Relief.

Chorley Family Playgroup, at Stottesdon, near Bridgnorth, is hosting a fun morning for pre-school children.

It will be held on Red Nose Day with fancy dress, games and face painting on offer to the youngsters.

The session will cost £2 per family.

Further information is available by contacting either (01746) 718016 or (01746) 718788.

Pupils and staff at Ellesmere Primary School have been challenged to dress as oddly as possible in order to raise cash for the event.

It is believed more than 300 are expected to take part.

They will also be covering headteacher Richard Pallett with Red Nose Day stickers and feasting on special red nose biscuits during breaktimes.

Active people across Telford will be swimming in their pyjamas, testing their endurance in four-hour cycling challenges and enjoying a round of golf as part of their efforts to raise cash for Comic Relief next week.

A three-day fundraising drive kicks off at the JJB Fitness Centre on the Forge Retail Park on Friday.

And a networking golf event takes place at the Shropshire Golf Centre on the same day.

Staff from Furrows, in Telford, are planning to pull a bright red Kia Picanto up Pride Hill, Shrewsbury, at noon.

And managers at the BT offices at Town Walls in Shrewsbury will be braving a leg wax on the day to raise as much money as they can for the cause.
